3rd December
We made and early start we wanted to get the vehicle back to Sebastian by early
afternoon, Alex and Isabelle woke a couple of hours later, We stopped to buy some sweet
breads and empanadas at a bakery, a last day treat.... We made the mistake of getting
too close to Buenos Aires, and were caught up in heavy traffic, but finally made it to El
Rosario and stopped a few blocks from Sebastian's house to have lunch, and then took
our temporal home to it's owner.
Isabelle in the meantime tortured Valentin...
I stayed packing while Fernando sorted out payments, I was upset about the amount of
muck was still in the van, but I suppose we will pay for cleaning...
Wrong! Sebastian didn't charge cleaning and he also gave us back the money we had
spent on new battery and the work done.
After we were kindly driven to Buenos Aires where we found out that the hotel we had
booked wasn't very good so Sebastian drove us to the nearby Apart hotel flamingo
nearby, where we decided to stay.
That evening we went to visit "mama wong" who was very happy to see us, maybe we
are the only clients that eat the buffet with moderation, and then went back to drop
dead in our room.
4th December
The next day we decided to visit "el Tigre" we took a metro to the train station, and then
a train, Alex was excited as it was his first time on a train.
Every time we stopped at a station a different person jumped on to try and sell his/her
goods or sing a song to beg for money, some of them really gave us a headache.
We arrived expecting to find a glorious fruit market, but they were not that interesting,
there were many shops selling cane furniture and other imported goods from China (?).
We walked along the water front and were very disappointed that the water was so
contaminated and full of bottles, bags and other trash.
After a small walk we sat down for lunch, another greasy parrilla, but with lots of
salad and a very friendly restaurant owner, we returned to Buenos Aires a little
disappointed. We walked back to the hotel from the train station.
5th December
We decided to go to la Boca, and we decided to walk! It took us 3 hours, We passed
through San Telmo,, which we thought was beautiful, we browsed a few antique shops
and then continued, poor Alex was complaining that he was tired, I think he was a little
bored as well as not all was as interesting as San Telmo.
We finally made it, and after being attacked by about 15 people trying to pull us into
the restaurants they represented, we decided to sit down on a nice comfortable terrace,
only to find out that we were too late for lunch!!
We backtracked and ate in a tourist restaurant complete with tango dancers and a live
singer.
We actually allowed the dancers to take our pictures with them!! And ended up buying
a couple of cd's from the singer, we were real tourist today!!
We returned to the hotel in Taxi needless to say and crashed out.
I am still editing this diary, today is 15/03/07 I will continue tomorrow..maybe.. )
