Rio Lagartos
We drove to Rio Lagartos, stayed the night in a small guest house,
early the next morning we went with two  local guides to visit the
surrounding mangroves and salt lakes.
The temperature, despite being May was perfect, we traveled east of the
village and saw many birds: frigates, pelicans, flamingos, eagles,
cormorants, cranes, egrets.
The guides through a fish to the eagle and it flew down to catch it
taking it back to her nest where her baby was waiting.
We learn´t that the flamingos eat a small shrimp that breeds in the
shallow water and this is what gives them their pink colour.
We also admired the bright red of the salt lakes, and learnt that it is
caused by minerals. It was also fascinating the way you could float
in the salt water.
On our way back to the village we were lucky to see a crocodile, these
are usually easier to see on a night tour, with a lamp so their eyes
light up.
