Our home schooling project

Our son Alex does very well at school, even if he missed 2 months
last term, due to a Big Hurricane that hit Quintana Roo ( Wilma ) and
our trip to South America, but he was able to catch up easily. His first
language is Spanish, but he does very well with English.
We make it a point to keep him ahead on all subjects, as it makes him
feel very confident when something is taught to him that he already
understands.
He has grown up surrounded by adults and we make a point of
playing many games: Backgammon, cards, dice, scrabble...
We also encourage him to read books even if he would much prefer
to watch cartoons as many young nine year olds do, but, he also
enjoys all the documentary´s on discovery channel and animal planet.
On this trip we will carry on with the Mexican SEP school books, and
complement this with Spanish geography and history. Working each
week on one subject. We will also be working with the books all year
round, less hours, instead of stopping for holidays.
We will talk about the political and religious differences in each
country we visit, as well as learning each country´s main city´s and
their flag, we will make money conversions and visit a number of
places of interest that will be recorded in the "home schooling"
section of each county.
He will keep a journal of his experiences on this trip.
We will also encourage him to join in with any games or sports
events that we encounter on our travels.
Isabelle will learn to read, write,do simple maths and learn a big
amount of plant and animal names.
She will also be in contact with many children of different cultures.
We have started with Southern Mexico, as this is where we
will be living until our adventure starts.
