To travel with our 4x4 jeep Liberty, it is small, can go everywhere, and can pull
5000 lbs. But, after purchasing our vehicle we have realized that the petrol
consumption is very high ( 12/ 22 litres each 100 kms.) we don´t even dare to
imagine what it would drink if we were pulling a caravan.
Another problem that we came across is that we couldn't find a light enough trailer
that we would be comfortable enough to spend 2 years or more in, and that we
would be able to carry all the equipment that we would need on such an adventure.
For example: we will need a big supply of water, that is and least 500 lbs of water,
solar panels, plus an A/A, plus some reading, plus pots and pans, games for the
children, a bag of charcoal, BBQ.. All this + us + gas in the vehicle, leaves us with a
very light weight trailer...maybe this: T@B no kidding!
But I do think it is sweet.....
The only other real choice would be a pull up trailer from trail manor but there is
no room for any extras, even through it is a nice idea, and perfect for towing and
shipping from one continent to another.
So, we are still trying to find the perfect match for us, Our current choice is a
Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel double cabin pulling a 27' Zinger 5th wheel model
ZF25BH.
We will add the info when all is decided.
A few weeks ago we sold our Jeep, a big step towards our trip, but this left a
funny feeling: have we done the right thing? After a 3 week wait we were
introduced to our new Ram dodge 2500 diesel 4x4 capable of pulling 16000 lb!
As soon as we got in it, we knew that it was for real: we are going on a road trip!
10th January 2007 update
But....... It is capable of pulling 16000 lbs, but not loading more than 2000lbs!! we
have gone wrong yet again!!
Our weight and diesel add up to 370 kg= 800lbs, leaving us only 1200lbs for hitch
and hitch weight.
We will visit a Chrysler expert in Cancún to find out what options they come up
with, at the moment we are going through all the RV manufacturers to find a light
fifth wheel. Or maybe we will have to get a travel trailer:-)
update 14th June 2007
Our favorite Fifth wheels have now been reduced to 2 models:
A 250RBSS 27' Homestead or a 32' Cruiser
Both a little too overweight, it would mean overloading by at least 750 lbs, lots of
people on the rv.net forum say that we will be fine others say that we will be fine
if we add airbags and other artifacts that I still have to find out what they are.
But now we are worried that it will be difficult to get to all those places we want
to visit with our "home" trailing behind us.......
...Will it be better to buy a truck camper and tow a small travel trailer????
We are now thinking about this pop up truck camper
Towing a light travel trailer like this
will it be too long???? What will we end up doing????

Our first idea after having traveled with an Andean Roads motor home in Argentina,
was to buy a motor home in USA, but this is very difficult when one is a Mexican
citizen.
Next idea was to buy an Mexican truck chassis and ship it to Argentina to be made
into a motor home, we would have done this with Manhjos or Royal motor homes, But
this left us with a different route and we would have to spend at least 1 month in
Argentina, spending money waiting for our home to be ready.
Then another issue dawned upon us: we would be stuck with our "home" all the time,
this means that we can't just go to town for a drink, or visit a museum without
bringing the whole house along, and to do so have to pack all before, so then we decide
it was a good idea to:.......
